VITA Free Tax Prep Information

The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free, high-quality tax preparation services to individuals and families who qualify. The United Way of Central Arkansas is proud to serve as a local VITA site, connecting our community with trusted, volunteer-powered tax assistance. Our IRS-certified volunteers complete extensive, required training each year that includes tax law education, quality review procedures, and strict privacy and confidentiality standards. This ensures every return is prepared accurately, securely, and with care- giving our neighbors confidence and peace of mind during tax season.

Do you qualify?

  • People who generally make  $67,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities; and
  • Limited English-speaking taxpayers

What do I bring?

  • Original photo identification for you and your spouse (if married filing jointly), such as:
    • Valid US Driver's License
    • Employer ID
    • School ID
    • State ID (US)
    • Military ID
    • National ID
    • Visa
    • Passport
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents
  • An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for you, your spouse, and dependents if you do not have a Social Security Number
  • Proof of foreign status if applying for an ITIN
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
  • Wage and earning statements from all employers
  • Social Security Benefit Statements, if applicable
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
  • A copy of last year's federal and state returns, if available
  • Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit, such as a blank check
  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying numbers, such as their SSN or business EIN
  • Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received
  • Forms 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement
  • Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
